ISSUE:
After updating your Android smartphone to Android 10 (aka Android Q), the Scout GPS Link app stops working with the Toyota Entune 3.0 Audio or Toyota Entune 3.0 Audio Plus infotainment system of your Toyota vehicle.
This does not affect Toyota vehicles that come equipped with the previous generation of Toyota Entune Audio Plus infotainment system.
SOLUTION:
Launch the Toyota Entune 3.0 App Suite Connect app and allow it to stay running when you turn your vehicle on and wish to use the Scout GPS Link app from your vehicle's dashboard screen.
Currently, you should also change an app setting of the Toyota Entune 3.0 App Suite Connect app on your Android 10 phone. This is a setting called "DISPLAY OVER OTHER APPS." The following steps are for a typical Android smartphone, powered by Android 10, that has Google's official UI:
- On your Android 10 phone, go to device SETTINGS >> APPS & NOTIFICATIONS >> SEE ALL APPS >> TOYOTA ENTUNE (aka Toyota Entune 3.0).
- Scroll down the page to ADVANCED and then tap "DISPLAY OVER OTHER APPS."
- In the Settings page for "Display Over Other Apps," tap the slider for "Allow display over other apps." This will cause the slider to turn from white (off) to blue (on) and enables the setting. If it is already enabled, tap it once to turn it off and then tap it again to turn it back on.
- Tap the Back button as many times as needed to exit the device Settings menu.
Android 10 on Samsung Phones
Samsung's OneUI* overlay is not identical to Google's native UI for Android 10. Follow these steps to find and enable "Allow Permission."
- Go to device SETTINGS >> APPS >> TOYOTA ENTUNE.
- Scroll down to "Advanced" and tap "Appear on Top."
- Tap the slider to enable "Allow Permission."
- Tap the Back button as many times as needed to exit the device Settings.
*Starting with Android 9, Samsung's OneUI replaces the Samsung Experience and Samsung TouchWiz.
DETAILS:
The Toyota Entune 3.0 App Suite Connect app manages the two-way data connection for Scout GPS Link between your smartphone and your vehicle's Toyota Entune 3.0 Audio/Audio Plus infotainment system. Toyota Entune 3.0 App Suite Connect app also does this for any other Toyota Entune app that has extra features enabled by a USB connection.
If you own an Android smartphone that is powered by Android 10 (aka Android Q) it is even more important to always launch the Toyota Entune 3.0 App Suite Connect app on your Android 10 phone before you launch Scout GPS Link.
This is required for a phone powered by Android 10 even if you only use Scout GPS Link in Bluetooth-only mode (TurnStream Mode).
Previously, this requirement only applied to customers who used the MapStream Mode of Scout GPS Link (overhead moving-map w/ audio navigation guidance and optional 3D nav view).
Android 10 changed the way in which apps are allowed to draw (run in the foreground) over other apps currently running on the phone. When the Toyota Entune 3.0 system is turned on and in use, it requires the Toyota Entune 3.0 App Suite Connect app to be accessible on the phone at all times.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
If this is your first time using Toyota Entune with a USB cable or trying to use the MapStream mode of Scout GPS Link, please make sure to use an OEM USB cable, such as the one that came with your smartphone or a cable produced by the phone maker. You should also be able to use good quality aftermarket USB cable that is officially certified by the USB-IF (USB Implementor's Forum is the organization that regulates the USB standard and develops new features and specifications for this technology).
NOTE: Cheap or poor quality USB cables are often constructed with wires that are drawn from low-quality alloys or are too flimsy for their intended purpose. In other cases, parts and circuitry required by a revision of USB (For example, USB 2.0 or USB 3.0) are missing from un-certified cables.
If you are not certain which USB port in your model and year of Toyota is the right one to plug your phone into, the Toyota Customer Experience Center help you find this.
If you are not certain whether your Toyota vehicle is equipped with a Toyota Entune 3.0 multimedia infotainment system, or for any questions about Toyota Entune 3.0 App Suite Connect, please call the Toyota Customer Experience Center at one of the phone numbers below.
